This is the newest innovation from the Musashi brand, two swords sheathed in one saya. If you want to learn more advanced Japanese sword fighting technique, you may want to practice the sport of kendo. You may also consider the martial art form Iaito through a dojo and learn the intricate steps of practical drawing of the katana as would have been studied by a Japanese samurai. If you decide to pursue sword cutting you may wish to study and practice tameshigiri through proper instruction. We do prefer to use “Functional Japanese sword” over the term “battle ready sword” because we feel it more accurately describes the katana that we offer. The term “battle ready katana” is popularly used to describe the functional katana and we do use the term on our website as well. When the katana was outfitted for battle it would have a simpler, more utilitarian tsuba and perhaps a battle wrapped handle (katate-maki tsuka). The fittings (koshirae) are of traditional design and make the yari aesthetically pleasing. The shaft (ebu) of the yari is done in a deep black lacquer and has a flattened side at the bottom section for blade orientation. Our yari is modeled after the su-yari or straight-spear design. The tang of the yari is long to absorb the shock of a blow and the one-piece staff construction reinforces the durability of the spear. The blade is a straight triangulated double-edged forged high-carbon steel with a deep fuller on the flat side of the blade. The yari by CAS/Hanwei is reminiscent of the ones of feudal Japan. The Yari was an essential battlefield weapon of the Samurai and took great skill to use and maneuver due to its length and size.
